now i'm all about pop lock and dropping to some good beats, but last night i experienced a new personal hell. stillwater, oklahoma happens to be the home of eskimo joes. i'm not sure yet why it is such a big deal, but people all over the world wear the shirts. it's a three story restaurant by day and three story bar by night. and on thursday nights, ladies drink for free. men pay five dollars and then drink for the rest of the night. now imagine what a three story bar with free booze would look like....
as we entered the classy joint of joe's (preface: i went out with my roommates last weekend and usually i can only go out about once a month, this is less than a week later and pretty much the last thing i want to be doing. but i have no friends yet so....) the place is packed. in fact..while waiting to get into the bar, i was reminded of waiting in line for a roller coaster. my roommates, plus one visiting ex-boyfriend and one other intern, go to get their beers and then want to proceed to the dance floor. we turn the corner to the main room to dance and.....ho.....ly......hell. picture a swimming pool in someone's back yard and then fill it with bodies until you can't see anywater. and then add 100 more people. or something. i mean it was bad. so again, i want nothing to do with it....but what ya gonna do. my roommates push us towards a "pocket" in the people.... and the cupid shuffle is next on the playlist (if you don't know, this is like a ghetto version of the electric slide). everyone is trying to dance and move and turn and instead looks like freaking fools. it was sweaty, smelly, and my foot got stepped on like 9 times. but i had to keep moving. and i was miserable.
it gets better...(p.s. this started out trying to be funny but i think my bitterness is still too fresh...hahahah. woops) to my immediate right there is a shorter man dancing, well gyrating really, and he continues to get entirely too close to my body. i try to get off the dance floor, but i'm literally trapped. i try to switch places with people, but everyone is mid shuffle. i try to just move somewhere, anywhere else, but it's just not in the cards. i just have to keep moving with the crowd and try my best to avoid to man's bum next to me. sick nasty. the song finally completed and the man "whooped" about 6 times loudly. and then i walked away.
just for the record: if any of you ever come to town to visit me. this is the last place i will ever take you. and that's a promise:)
