wisdom.

i haven't blogged in over a year...why now!? i have no clue. i have been following a couple blogs lately, including www.theologyforwoman.com and i've really enjoyed it. i suppose it's in response to this blog that i've decided to record my own thoughts/words/revelations, and why not bring this old blog back to life as a way to process. we'll see if it sticks. the giant difference between myself and the blogger i adore...is that i have no formal education in theology or biblical studies. i am not trying to be a teacher. i will probably say things that i will decide a week later aren't correct. i type these thoughts with humility :)

i had the word "wisdom" spoken to me through several different avenues the other day. a memory of a conversation about wisdom from 4 years ago, a conversation from a friend that day telling me she thought i was wise in a certain situtation, and again through my daily scripture reading. wisdom. i decided to seek.

where do you go to read about wisdom? proverbs...that's where.

"Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the market she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the gates she speaks." -Proverbs 1:20-21

"The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her." Proverbs 4:8-9

i shared with friends. told them i was seeking after wisdom. what is it? how do you know if it is from the Lord? i do not want to "be wise in my own eyes." help me Lord! and what do dear friends who follow the Lord alongside you do? they seek too...and share with you what they find.

jackpot.

john piper speaks on wisdom in 1981 (what, no podcast?!) and i rejoice that someone much smarter than me can interpret scriptures on wisdom. i encourage you to read it..if you're reading this...you definately have the time.

i continue to seek on this. praying for more guidance. more understanding. more wisdom.

"Therefore wisdom is hearing and doing the word of God. But the only people who will do this are the people who are humbly relying on God for help and who fear to seek happiness anywhere but in him." -John Piper

may we fear to seek refuge, and joy, and hope anywhere but in God!

So taking Piper's quote, it could then be said that wisdom involves several factors: 1) submission, 2) devotion, 3) dependence, and 4) a sense of cautiousness around wavering in that devotion, a vigilance of sorts.

i'll stick this on my list!
