diet is a four letter word.

some thoughts on recent nutrition related questions:

"do certain foods cause you to gain around your midsection?"
nope. this is where body types and genetics come in. carrying extra weight around the midsection is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. (a waist of 35 inches for women and 40 inches for men) but once again, a healthy diet and exercise make it a non-issue!

"but olive oil is really good for you, right?"
yes, olive oil is a "heart healthy" item...BUT it packs a powerful calorie punch. (yes, i just said that). use it sparingly when cooking... because while it does contain those good omega-3 fats, it can still cause weight gain. (note: also true for dark chocolate and nuts)

"i always thought i need to work out for an hour for it to be any good"
not at all! while for some people an hour work out is what they crave and will plan into their day, it doesn't mean this is the only way to benefit. 15 minutes of walking is better than 0 minutes of walking. if someone could walk for 15 minutes over their lunch break and a 15 minutes with a friend/spouse after dinner...thats 30 minutes which is a great daily goal of physical activity for a beginner.
